Jesus Calms the Storm
After a long day of teaching and healing, Jesus got into a boat with his disciples to cross to the other side of the lake, and he soon fell fast asleep. Without warning, a furious storm swept over the water, with waves crashing over the boat so violently that it began filling with water. The experienced fishermen among the disciples were terrified, convinced they were all about to drown.
They rushed to wake Jesus, crying out, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" Jesus woke calmly and asked them, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have so little faith?" Then he stood up and rebuked the wind and the waves -- and instantly, the sea became completely calm.
The disciples were amazed, turning to one another and asking, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!" What had begun as a moment of sheer panic became a powerful lesson about who Jesus really was -- not just a teacher, but someone with authority even over nature itself. The same hands that healed the sick and taught the crowds could silence a raging sea with a single word, and the disciples were left in awe, still learning just how much power walked among them in human form.
